Hadith #1632

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

ألا تائِبٌ مِنْ خَطيئَتِهِ قَبْلَ حُضُورِ مَنيَّتِهِ۔

This can be translated as,

Is there no one who is repentant for his sins before his death comes?

This impactful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) before it is too late.

The word (ta'ibun) "تائِبٌ" in the Hadith refers to someone who is repentant, remorseful, and turns back to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) seeking forgiveness for their sins. The phrase (qabla huduri maniyatihi) "قَبْلَ حُضُورِ مَنيَّتِهِ" means

before his death comes.

It serves as a reminder of the transient nature of life and the certainty of death. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is urging Muslims to repent and seek forgiveness before it is too late, before the moment of death arrives and opportunities for repentance are lost.

Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.

Furthermore, in Surah Az-Zumar (39:53), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'

These verses highlight the mercy and forgiveness of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and encourage Muslims to turn to Him in repentance. They assure us that no matter how grave our sins may be, Allah's mercy is vast and all-encompassing. It is never too late to seek forgiveness and turn back to Him.
