اِقْتَدُوا بِهُدى نَبِيِّكُمْ، فَإنَّهُ أصْدَقُ الهُدى، واسْتَنُّوا بِسُنَّتِهِ، فَإنَّها أهْدىَ السُّنَنِ۔

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Muhammad (S) And His Progeny)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of following the guidance and emulating the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Let us delve into the exegesis of this profound Hadith and explore its significance in the light of the Quran.
The word (Iqtadu) "اِقْتَدُوا" in the Hadith means "follow" or "emulate." It urges Muslims to follow the guidance of the Prophet (ﷺ) in all aspects of life. This guidance is described as (Huda) "هُدى" which means "guidance" or "direction." The Hadith emphasizes that the guidance of the Prophet (ﷺ) is the truest and most authentic guidance, as it is divinely inspired and based on the teachings of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
The word (Nabiyikum) "نَبِيِّكُمْ" refers to "your Prophet" and highlights the significance of following the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) specifically. This emphasizes the unique role of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as the final and most perfect messenger of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
The Hadith further states, (Wa-stannu bi-sunnatihi) "واسْتَنُّوا بِسُنَّتِهِ", which means "emulate his practices." The word (Sunnatihi) "سُنَّتِهِ" refers to the practices and actions of the Prophet (ﷺ). These practices are described as (Ahdas-sunnan) "أهْدىَ السُّنَنِ", meaning the most exemplary and ideal practices. By emulating the Prophet's (ﷺ) actions, Muslims can strive to embody the noble character and righteousness exemplified by him.
The Quran provides numerous verses that emphasize the importance of following the guidance of the Prophet (ﷺ) and emulating his practices. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:21):
Certainly, there is for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern (example) for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.
This verse highlights the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as an excellent example for all believers to follow. By following his guidance and emulating his practices, Muslims can strive to attain righteousness and seek the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Additionally, in Surah Al-Imran (3:31), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:
Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'
This verse emphasizes the direct correlation between following the Prophet (ﷺ) and attaining the love and forgiveness of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It highlights the importance of emulating the practices of the Prophet (ﷺ) as a means of seeking closeness to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and attaining His mercy.
The exegesis of this Hadith highlights the significance of following the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and emulating his practices. By doing so, Muslims can attain the truest guidance and strive to embody the noble character and righteousness exemplified by the Prophet (ﷺ). It is through this emulation that Muslims can seek the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and attain His love and forgiveness.
May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to follow the guidance of the Prophet (ﷺ) and emulate his practices in all aspects of our lives. May we strive to embody the noble character and righteousness exemplified by him, and may Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) accept our efforts.
