دَرَكُ السَّعادَةِ بِمُبادَرَةِ الخَيْراتِ والأعْمالِ الزّاكياتِ۔
Felicity is gained by hastening good deeds and pure [and virtuous] actions.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Felicity)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of hastening towards performing good deeds and engaging in virtuous actions. The word (daraka) "دَرَكُ" in Arabic means to attain or reach, while (al-sa'adah) "السَّعادَةِ" refers to felicity or happiness. The phrase (bi-mubadara al-khayrat wa al-a'mal al-zakiyat)
بِمُبادَرَةِ الخَيْراتِ والأعْمالِ الزّاكياتِ
translates to
by hastening good deeds and pure actions.
This Hadith urges Muslims to actively and promptly engage in acts of righteousness and purity. It highlights the significance of seizing opportunities to perform good deeds and engage in virtuous actions without delay. By doing so, one can attain true happiness and felicity in this world and the hereafter.
The Quran provides numerous verses that support the exegesis of this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 148:
So race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.
This verse encourages Muslims to compete in performing good deeds, indicating the importance of hastening towards acts of righteousness.
Additionally, in Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 61, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states:
And let not those who hasten to [the enjoyment of] the worldly life deceive you and those who disbelieve therein.
This verse warns against being deceived by those who rush towards worldly pleasures and neglect the pursuit of virtuous actions. It emphasizes the need to prioritize and hasten towards actions that bring us closer to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Reflecting on the Hadith, we can understand that hastening towards good deeds and pure actions is not only a means to attain felicity but also a reflection of our faith and devotion to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). When we actively and promptly engage in acts of righteousness, we demonstrate our eagerness to please Allah and seek His pleasure.
Moreover, hastening towards good deeds and pure actions can have profound consequences in our lives. It not only brings us closer to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) but also strengthens our character and purifies our souls. By consistently engaging in virtuous actions, we develop a sense of discipline, selflessness, and empathy towards others. These qualities contribute to our personal growth and enable us to positively impact the lives of those around us.
Furthermore, hastening towards good deeds and pure actions can inspire and motivate others to follow suit. When Muslims witness the dedication and enthusiasm with which we engage in acts of righteousness, they are encouraged to do the same. Our actions serve as a source of inspiration and guidance for others, leading to a ripple effect of goodness within the community.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of hastening towards good deeds and pure actions. By actively engaging in acts of righteousness, we not only attain felicity but also strengthen our faith, purify our souls, and positively impact the lives of others. Let us strive to be proactive in our pursuit of goodness and continuously seek opportunities to please Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) through our actions. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to hasten towards good deeds and attain true felicity.
