تَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ فَإنَّهُ قَدْ تَكَفَّلَ بِكِفايَةِ المُتَوَكِّلينَ عَلَيْهِ۔

— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of placing our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and relying on Him completely. The word (tawakkal) "تَوَكَّلْ" in Arabic means to trust, rely, or depend on someone or something. It is derived from the root word (wakala) "وَكَلَ", which means to entrust or delegate authority.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises Muslims to place their trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) because He has guaranteed the sufficiency and provision of those who rely on Him. This means that when we trust in Allah and rely on Him for our needs, He will take care of us and provide us with what is necessary for our well-being.

This concept of trust in Allah is deeply rooted in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly encourages believers to place their trust in Him and rely on His guidance and support. In Surah Al-Talaq, verse 3, Allah says,

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse affirms that when we trust in Allah, He is enough to fulfill our needs and provide us with what is best for us.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal, verse 2, Allah says,

Indeed, the believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.

This verse highlights the characteristics of true believers who rely on Allah and trust in Him wholeheartedly. Their reliance on Allah strengthens their faith and brings them closer to Him.

The consequences of placing our trust in Allah are profound. When we trust in Allah, we free ourselves from unnecessary worries and anxieties. We recognize that Allah is the ultimate provider and sustainer, and He is in control of all affairs. This trust allows us to surrender to His will and accept whatever He decrees for us. It brings us peace of mind and contentment, knowing that Allah's plan is perfect and that He will take care of us.

Placing our trust in Allah also motivates us to take action and strive for excellence. Trusting in Allah does not mean sitting idle and expecting everything to be handed to us. Rather, it means relying on Allah's guidance and support while putting in our best effort. We trust that Allah will bless our endeavors and grant us success in this life and the Hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice to trust in Allah serves as a reminder for all Muslims, regardless of their sect. It is a call to strengthen our relationship with Allah and deepen our reliance on Him. By placing our trust in Allah, we can navigate through the challenges of life with confidence and find solace in His divine care and protection.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of trusting in Allah and relying on Him completely. It echoes the teachings of the Quran, which repeatedly emphasize the significance of placing our trust in Allah. When we trust in Allah, He guarantees our sufficiency and takes care of our needs. This trust brings us peace, motivates us to take action, and strengthens our relationship with Allah. May we all strive to deepen our trust in Allah and experience the blessings and tranquility that come with it.
