Hadith #3093

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble family, and his righteous companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Espouse modesty, for it is the symbol of nobility.

This impactful Hadith emphasizes the importance of modesty in the life of a Muslim. Let us delve into the meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The word (hayaa) "حَيَاء" in Arabic, which is translated as "modesty" in English, encompasses a range of meanings. The Quran emphasizes the importance of modesty in numerous verses. For example, in Surah Al-A'raf (7:26), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best.

Furthermore, in Surah An-Nur (24:30), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) instructs both men and women to lower their gaze and guard their modesty. This verse emphasizes the importance of controlling one's desires and maintaining modest behavior in interactions with others.
