بِالإقْبالِ تُطْرَدُ النُّحُوسُ۔
By turning towards [Allah] misfortunes are warded off.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Turning Towards Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "بِالإقْبالِ تُطْرَدُ النُّحُوسُ۔" This can be translated as,
By turning towards [Allah] misfortunes are warded off.
Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran.
The word (iqbal) "إقْبال" in this Hadith refers to the act of turning towards Allah, seeking His guidance, and relying on Him in all matters. It signifies a sincere and wholehearted approach towards Allah, with complete trust and submission. This act of turning towards Allah is not limited to physical actions, but it encompasses the inner state of the heart and the intention behind our actions.
To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can refer to the Quranic verses that emphasize the importance of turning towards Allah. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (2:186)
And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided
This verse highlights the closeness of Allah to His servants and His willingness to respond to their supplications. By turning towards Allah, we establish a direct connection with Him and seek His assistance in warding off misfortunes.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut, Allah states, (29:69)
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good
This verse emphasizes the importance of actively seeking Allah's guidance and turning towards Him in all our endeavors. By doing so, we invite His blessings and protection, which in turn helps us overcome difficulties and challenges.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that by turning towards Allah, misfortunes are warded off. When we sincerely rely on Allah and seek His guidance, we are protected from the harms and calamities that may befall us. This does not mean that we will never face any difficulties in life, as trials and tribulations are a part of our journey. However, by turning towards Allah, we are granted the strength, wisdom, and resilience to face these challenges with patience and faith.
For example, when faced with a difficult decision, we should turn towards Allah and seek His guidance through prayer and supplication. By doing so, we align our actions with His will and are more likely to make choices that lead to positive outcomes. Similarly, when confronted with hardships, we should turn towards Allah and seek solace in His remembrance, knowing that He is the ultimate source of comfort and relief.
The act of turning towards Allah not only brings immediate benefits but also has long-term consequences. By consistently seeking Allah's guidance and relying on Him, we develop a deep connection with our Creator. This connection strengthens our faith, purifies our intentions, and enables us to lead a righteous and fulfilling life. It helps us navigate the challenges of this world while keeping our focus on the eternal rewards of the Hereafter.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of turning towards Allah in all aspects of our lives. By doing so, we seek His guidance, protection, and blessings, which help us overcome misfortunes and navigate the challenges of life. Let us strive to cultivate a sincere and wholehearted approach towards Allah, relying on Him in all matters, and seeking His guidance in every step we take. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to turn towards Him and ward off misfortunes.
