مَنْ طالَتْ فِكْرَتُهُ حَسُنَتْ بَصيرَتُهُ۔
One whose thought is prolonged, his discernment becomes good.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Thinking And The Thinker)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
مَنْ طالَتْ فِكْرَتُهُ حَسُنَتْ بَصيرَتُهُ۔
This can be translated as,
One whose thought is prolonged, his discernment becomes good.
Let us now delve into the deeper meaning of this beautiful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and explore its significance in light of the Quran.
The word "فِكْرَتُهُ" in the Hadith refers to one's thought or contemplation. It encompasses the process of deep thinking, pondering, and reflecting upon various matters. When an individual engages in prolonged and deep contemplation, their "بَصيرَتُهُ" or discernment becomes good. This refers to their ability to perceive and understand things with clarity and insight.
The Quran provides us with numerous verses that emphasize the importance of contemplation and deep thinking. In Surah Al-Imran (3:190), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.
This verse encourages believers to reflect upon the signs of Allah's creation, which leads to a deeper understanding of His wisdom and power.
Similarly, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:164), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.
This verse highlights the importance of contemplating the creation of the heavens and the earth, as it leads to an increase in knowledge and wisdom.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement in the Hadith emphasizes the transformative power of prolonged contemplation. When one engages in deep thinking and reflection, their ability to perceive and understand the world around them improves. This enhanced discernment enables them to make better decisions, analyze situations more effectively, and gain a deeper understanding of complex matters.
For example, imagine a person who is faced with a difficult decision. Instead of hastily making a choice, they take the time to ponder and reflect upon the various factors involved. By engaging in prolonged contemplation, they are able to weigh the pros and cons, consider different perspectives, and ultimately make a more informed and wise decision.
Furthermore, prolonged contemplation also enhances one's understanding of religious teachings and principles. By deeply reflecting upon the verses of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), individuals can gain profound insights and a deeper connection with their faith. This leads to a stronger spiritual foundation and a more meaningful relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of prolonged contemplation and deep thinking. By engaging in this practice, our discernment and understanding improve, enabling us to make better decisions and gain deeper insights into the world around us. Let us strive to cultivate a habit of deep contemplation, seeking knowledge, and reflecting upon the signs of Allah's creation, as this will lead to personal growth, wisdom, and a stronger connection with our faith. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to engage in profound contemplation and bless us with increased discernment.
