(Ghurar al-Hikam: Faith)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of strengthening our faith through certitude. The word used in the Hadith is (qawwu) "قَوُّوا", which means to strengthen or fortify. It implies that our faith should not be weak or wavering, but rather firm and unwavering.

The word (eemanakum) "إيمانَكم" in the Hadith refers to our faith or belief in Allah and His religion. It encompasses our belief in the Oneness of Allah, the Prophethood of Muhammad (), and all the teachings of Islam. It is the foundation upon which our entire religious life is built.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that strengthening our faith with certitude is (afdalud-deen) "أفْضَلُ الدّينِ", meaning it is the best aspect of religion. This highlights the significance of having a strong and unwavering faith in Islam. It is through this firm belief that we can attain true success and fulfillment in this life and the hereafter.

The importance of certitude in faith is emphasized in the Quran as well. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:15),

The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then doubt not but strive with their properties and their lives in the cause of Allah. It is those who are the truthful.

This verse emphasizes the need for unwavering faith and certainty in the beliefs of Islam.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:2), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

The believers are only those whose hearts tremble with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.

This verse highlights the importance of having a strong and unwavering faith that is increased through the remembrance of Allah and the recitation of His verses.

Strengthening our faith with certitude has profound consequences in our lives as Muslims. It provides us with a solid foundation upon which we can build our relationship with Allah. It gives us the strength and determination to face the challenges and trials of life, knowing that our faith is unshakable.

When we have certitude in our faith, we are motivated to seek knowledge and understanding of Islam. We strive to deepen our understanding of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (). This knowledge empowers us to make informed decisions and live our lives in accordance with the principles of Islam.

Having a strong and unwavering faith also enables us to withstand doubts and skepticism that may arise. It protects us from being swayed by false ideologies or misleading interpretations of Islam. We are able to discern truth from falsehood and hold steadfast to the teachings of the Quran and the Ahl al-Bayt.

Reflecting on the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we are reminded of the importance of continuously strengthening our faith with certitude. It is not enough to simply believe, but we must strive to fortify our faith through seeking knowledge, reflecting on the Quran, and practicing the teachings of Islam in our daily lives.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and guidance to strengthen our faith with certitude, and may He bless us with unwavering belief in His religion. Ameen.
