Hadith #11318

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

اِغْلِبُوا أهْوائَكُمْ، وهارِبُوها، فَإنَّها إنْ تُقَيِّدْكُمْ تُورِدْكُمْ مِنَ الهَلَكَةِ أبْعَدَ غايَة۔

This powerful statement by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges Muslims to overcome their vain desires and flee from them. The Imam warns that if these desires capture individuals, they will lead them into the farthest depths of destruction.

In Surah Al-Jathiyah, verse 23, Allah further emphasizes the consequences of following vain desires, stating, (Quran 45:23)

Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allah has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allah? Then will you not be reminded?

This verse portrays the severe consequences of prioritizing one's desires over the knowledge and guidance of Allah, resulting in being led astray and deprived of divine guidance.
