(Ghurar al-Hikam: Remembrance [Of Allah] And The Reminder)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The remembrance [of Allah] is the delight of the lovers.

Let us delve into the essence of this statement and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word (dhikr) "ذِكْر" in Arabic refers to the remembrance of Allah. It encompasses various acts of worship, such as recitation of the Quran, supplication, and praising Allah. The word (ladhdhatu) "لَذَّةُ" means delight or pleasure, and (almuhibbeen) "المُحِبِّينَ" translates to the lovers. Thus, the Hadith emphasizes that the remembrance of Allah is a source of immense joy and satisfaction for those who truly love Him.

The Quran provides numerous verses that highlight the significance of remembrance of Allah. In Surah Al-Ra'd (13:28), Allah says,

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured.

This verse emphasizes that the remembrance of Allah brings tranquility and peace to the hearts of believers. It is through the remembrance of Allah that one finds solace and contentment in this worldly life.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45), Allah states,

Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

This verse highlights the superiority of the remembrance of Allah over all other acts of worship. It serves as a means of protection from sin and evil, purifying the soul and guiding one towards righteousness.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the profound connection between the remembrance of Allah and the love for Him. When one truly loves Allah, their heart naturally inclines towards His remembrance. The remembrance of Allah becomes a source of delight and pleasure for them, as it strengthens their bond with the Divine and deepens their love for Him.

The lovers of Allah find immense joy in engaging in acts of remembrance, such as reciting the Quran, performing prayers, and engaging in supplication. They recognize that through these acts, they are drawing closer to Allah and experiencing His presence in their lives. The remembrance of Allah becomes a means of spiritual elevation and a source of inner fulfillment.

Moreover, the Hadith also highlights the motivation and consequence of the remembrance of Allah. The motivation lies in the love for Allah, which serves as the driving force behind the constant remembrance of Him. The lovers of Allah are motivated by their deep affection for Him, and this love fuels their desire to remember Him at all times.

The consequence of the remembrance of Allah is the delight and pleasure experienced by the lovers. When one engages in the remembrance of Allah sincerely and wholeheartedly, they are rewarded with a sense of inner peace, contentment, and joy. This delight is not temporary or fleeting, but rather a constant source of solace and happiness in their lives.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we are reminded of the importance of cultivating a deep love for Allah and nurturing our relationship with Him through constant remembrance. By immersing ourselves in acts of remembrance, we can experience the profound delight and pleasure that comes from being in the company of the Divine. May Allah grant us the ability to be among the true lovers of Allah and find eternal delight in His remembrance.
