The aim of the falsifier is [to cause] corruption.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Falsifier)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "غَرَضُ المُبْطِلِ الفَسادُ۔" This can be translated as,
The aim of the falsifier is [to cause] corruption.
Let us delve into the meaning of this statement in light of the Quran.
The word (gharadu) "غَرَضُ" refers to the intention or aim of an individual. It signifies the purpose or objective behind one's actions. In this context, it refers to the intention of the (mubtil) "مُبْطِلِ", which means the falsifier or the one who distorts the truth. The falsifier is someone who intentionally misrepresents facts or manipulates information to deceive others.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights that the ultimate goal of the falsifier is (al-fasad) "الفَسادُ", which translates to corruption. This corruption encompasses various forms, including moral, social, and spiritual corruption. The falsifier seeks to spread chaos, confusion, and discord among people, leading them astray from the path of righteousness.
The Quran provides us with numerous verses that shed light on the concept of corruption and the consequences it brings. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns us about the destructive nature of corruption and its detrimental effects on individuals and societies. For example, in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says:
(Quran 30:41)
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].
This verse emphasizes that corruption arises as a result of people's own actions and choices. It serves as a reminder that the consequences of corruption are a direct outcome of the evil intentions and deeds of individuals. It also highlights the purpose behind these consequences, which is to guide people back to the path of righteousness.
Furthermore, the Quran presents the story of Prophet Nuh (Noah) and his people as an example of the destructive consequences of corruption. Prophet Nuh (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warned his people about the consequences of their corrupt actions, but they persisted in their disbelief and transgression. As a result, they faced a great flood that wiped out their civilization. This story serves as a powerful reminder of the severe consequences that corruption can bring upon a society.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement highlights the importance of recognizing the intentions behind the actions of individuals. It reminds us to be vigilant and cautious of those who seek to distort the truth and spread corruption. By understanding the true intentions of the falsifiers, we can protect ourselves from falling into their traps and safeguard our communities from the destructive consequences of corruption.
Moreover, this Hadith serves as a call to action for Muslims to actively combat corruption in all its forms. It encourages us to uphold truth, justice, and righteousness in our personal lives and in society. By promoting honesty, integrity, and transparency, we can counter the efforts of the falsifiers and contribute to the establishment of a just and virtuous society.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the true intentions of those who seek to distort the truth and spread corruption. It urges us to be vigilant, recognize the consequences of corruption, and actively work towards establishing a just and righteous society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us in recognizing and combating corruption, and may He protect us from the evil intentions of the falsifiers.
