Hadith #3761

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he describes the abode of transience, the resting place of the sinners, the residence of the wretched and the transgressors. Let us delve into the meanings of the important words used in this Hadith and explore their significance in light of the Quran.

The word (transience) "فَنَاء" refers to the temporary nature of this world and the fleeting nature of worldly possessions and desires. It reminds us that everything in this world is perishable and will eventually come to an end. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) reminds us in the Quran, (Quran 29:64)

What is the life of this world but amusement and play? But verily the Home in the Hereafter, that is life indeed, if they but knew.

The word (sinners) "عَاصِينَ" refers to those who disobey Allah's commands and transgress the boundaries set by Him. The Quran emphasizes the importance of obedience and warns against the consequences of sin. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 4:14)

And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.

The word (wretched) "أَشْقِيَاء" refers to those who are miserable and deprived of blessings due to their own actions. The Quran describes the state of the wretched, (Quran 20:124)

And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.

The word (transgressors) "مُعْتَدِينَ" refers to those who exceed the limits and boundaries set by Allah. They go beyond what is permissible and indulge in forbidden actions. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns against transgression in the Quran, (Quran 2:190)

And do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in this Hadith is reminding us of the temporary nature of this world and the consequences of disobedience and transgression. He is highlighting the importance of focusing on the eternal abode, the Hereafter, and striving to attain the pleasure of Allah.

This Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to reflect on their actions and strive to avoid sin and transgression. It motivates us to seek forgiveness for our sins and to constantly strive for self-improvement. It also reminds us to be grateful for the blessings of Allah and to use them in a manner that pleases Him.

The consequences of disregarding this advice are severe. Those who prioritize worldly desires and engage in sinful actions will find themselves in a state of misery and deprivation in this life and the Hereafter. They will be held accountable for their actions and face the consequences of their transgressions.

As Muslims, we should reflect on this Hadith and strive to align our actions with the teachings of the Quran and the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his Ahl al-Bayt. We should seek knowledge and understanding of Islam, and constantly strive to improve ourselves and seek forgiveness for our shortcomings.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to follow the path of righteousness and protect us from the temptations of this world. May He guide us to the straight path and grant us success in this life and the Hereafter. Ameen.
