Hadith #6231

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "فِي الجَوْرِ الطُّغْيانُ" which translates to

In tyranny there is transgression.

This concise statement holds profound wisdom and provides us with important guidance on the nature and consequences of tyranny.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us first examine the key words used. (al-jawr) "الجَوْرِ" refers to oppression, injustice, or the act of exceeding the limits of fairness and equity. It encompasses any form of wrongdoing or mistreatment inflicted upon others. O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

This verse highlights the importance of upholding justice even in difficult circumstances, and it warns against distorting the truth or refusing to testify. It reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is fully aware of our actions, and He expects us to be just and fair in all situations.
