(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ كانَ مُتَوَكِّلاً لَمْ يَعْدَمِ الإعانَةَ۔

This can be translated as,

One who puts his trust in Allah will never lose His support.

Let us delve into the exegesis of this thought-provoking saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in the light of the Quran. The key word in this Hadith is (mutawakkilan) "مُتَوَكِّلًا", which means

one who puts his trust

or "one who relies" on Allah. This word signifies complete reliance and dependence on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), seeking His help and guidance in all matters of life.

The Quran provides numerous verses that emphasize the importance of putting our trust in Allah. In Surah Al-Talaq, verse 3, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse reaffirms that when we place our trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate source of support and assistance.

Another verse that supports the message of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Anfal, verse 2, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.

This verse highlights that Allah is always present with those who patiently rely on Him, providing them with His divine assistance and guidance.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement holds profound wisdom and practical implications for our lives as Muslims. When we place our trust in Allah, we acknowledge His infinite knowledge, wisdom, and power. We recognize that He is the ultimate controller of all affairs and that He knows what is best for us in every situation.

By relying on Allah, we free ourselves from the burden of worry and anxiety. We understand that no matter how challenging or difficult a situation may seem, Allah's support is always there for us. This trust in Allah brings about a sense of tranquility and peace in our hearts, knowing that we are not alone in our struggles.

Furthermore, when we rely on Allah, we are motivated to take action and make efforts to achieve our goals. We understand that our success ultimately lies in His hands, but we must also play our part by utilizing the resources and abilities He has bestowed upon us. This reliance on Allah does not absolve us from our responsibilities, but rather it strengthens our resolve to strive and work towards our objectives.

The consequences of putting our trust in Allah are manifold. Firstly, it strengthens our relationship with Him, as we develop a deep sense of reliance and dependence on His mercy and guidance. Secondly, it instills in us a sense of gratitude, as we recognize that every blessing and success we achieve is ultimately from Allah. This gratitude further deepens our connection with Him and increases our faith.

Moreover, relying on Allah also helps us overcome challenges and obstacles in life. When we face difficulties, we turn to Allah for support and guidance, seeking His help in finding solutions. This reliance on Him enables us to navigate through the trials of life with patience and resilience, knowing that He is always there to assist us.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith emphasizes the importance of putting our trust in Allah. By relying on Him, we open ourselves up to His divine support and guidance. This trust in Allah brings about peace, motivation, and gratitude in our lives. It enables us to face challenges with resilience and seek His assistance in all matters. May Allah grant us the ability to truly rely on Him and experience the blessings and support that come with it.
