Hadith #4514

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلَ الرِّفْقَ غَنِمَ۔

This can be translated as,

One who employs leniency, prospers.

In this Hadith, the word (istamal) "استعمل" means to employ or utilize, while (ar-rafq) "الرفق" refers to leniency, gentleness, and kindness. The word (ghanim) "غنم" means to prosper or gain.

To understand the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of kindness, compassion, and leniency in various verses. For instance, in Surah Al-Imran (3:159), Allah says,

So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you.

This verse highlights the significance of employing leniency and gentleness in dealing with others, as it fosters unity and strengthens relationships.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-A'raf (7:199), Allah instructs Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to

Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.

This verse encourages the Prophet (ﷺ) to adopt a lenient approach when dealing with people, accepting their offerings, promoting goodness, and avoiding confrontation with those who lack knowledge. This exemplifies the concept of employing leniency for the sake of prosperity.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the benefits and rewards of employing leniency.
