Hadith #4790

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

مَنْ أفْشى سِرّاً أُسْتُودِعَهُ فَقَدْ خانَ۔

This can be translated as:

One who divulges a secret that has been entrusted to him has betrayed [a trust].

The word (ustudi'ah) "أُسْتُودِعَهُ" comes from the root word (amana) "أَمَانَة", which means trust or responsibility. O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:12), Allah states,

O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

This verse highlights the importance of avoiding suspicion and gossip, which are forms of betrayal of trust. It teaches us to be cautious with our words and to refrain from disclosing the secrets of others.
