Hadith #287

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The belief of a person cannot be regarded as true unless his trust in what is with Allah is more than his trust in what he himself has.

This impactful Hadith highlights the importance of having complete reliance and trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and His divine decree.

Let us delve deeper into the key words of this Hadith. The word (iman) "إِيمَانُ" refers to faith or belief, which encompasses both the belief in the heart and the actions that stem from it. To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran (3:160),

If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.

This verse emphasizes the absolute reliance and trust that believers should place in Allah alone. It reminds us that our success and protection ultimately come from Him, and no one else can provide the same level of support.

Furthermore, in Surah At-Talaq (65:3), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse reassures us that when we place our trust in Allah, He is more than sufficient to fulfill our needs and protect us from harm. It is a reminder that our trust in Allah should be unwavering, knowing that He is the All-Powerful and All-Knowing.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of having greater trust in what is with Allah than in what we possess or control. This means that our reliance on Allah should surpass our reliance on our own abilities, wealth, or worldly resources. We should recognize that everything we have is ultimately from Allah, and He is the One who sustains and provides for us.

When we prioritize our trust in Allah, it has profound implications on our actions, decisions, and mindset. It leads us to seek His guidance and follow His commands, knowing that He is the ultimate source of wisdom and knowledge. It motivates us to rely on Him in times of difficulty, knowing that He is the One who can alleviate our hardships. It also instills in us a sense of gratitude and contentment, as we recognize that whatever Allah has decreed for us is ultimately for our own benefit.

Conversely, when our trust in worldly matters outweighs our trust in Allah, we become vulnerable to anxiety, fear, and disappointment. We may rely excessively on our own abilities and resources, forgetting that they are limited and subject to change. This can lead to arrogance, self-reliance, and a neglect of seeking Allah's guidance and assistance.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of having complete trust in Allah and His divine decree. It urges us to prioritize our reliance on Him over our reliance on worldly matters. By doing so, we strengthen our faith, align our actions with His will, and find true peace and contentment.
