There is no blessing better than security.

— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Security)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لا نِعْمَةَ أهْنَأُ مِنَ الأمْنِ۔

This can be translated as,

There is no blessing better than security.

In this amazing Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of security and peace in our lives.

The word (ni'mah) "نِعْمَةَ" in this Hadith refers to a blessing or favor bestowed upon someone. It encompasses all the good things that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grants to His creation, whether tangible or intangible. It includes physical well-being, mental peace, spiritual tranquility, and all other forms of blessings that bring contentment and happiness to individuals.

The word (ahna) "أهْنَأُ" is derived from the root word (hana) "هَنَأَ", which means to be at ease, tranquil, or secure. It signifies a state of complete peace and security, where there is no fear, danger, or threat. It implies a sense of stability, both externally and internally, where individuals can live their lives without any worries or anxieties.

To understand the significance of security as the greatest blessing, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of peace and security in numerous verses. For example, in Surah An-Nahl (16:90), Allah says,

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

This verse highlights the importance of justice and good conduct, which are essential for maintaining peace and security in society.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208), Allah says,

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse emphasizes the need to embrace peace wholeheartedly and warns against following the path of Satan, who seeks to disrupt peace and sow discord among people.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement reflects the profound understanding he possessed. He recognized that security is the foundation upon which all other blessings can be enjoyed. Without security, individuals cannot fully appreciate or benefit from any other blessings in their lives. It is only when we are free from fear, conflict, and instability that we can truly experience the beauty of life and make the most of the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

When we live in a state of security, we can focus on our personal growth, fulfill our responsibilities towards our families and communities, and contribute positively to society. Security allows us to pursue knowledge, engage in meaningful relationships, and seek spiritual enlightenment. It provides the necessary environment for progress, development, and the flourishing of human potential.

Conversely, when security is compromised, the consequences are far-reaching. Individuals become consumed by fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, which hinders their ability to lead fulfilling lives. Communities are plagued by violence, injustice, and oppression, leading to the erosion of trust and the breakdown of social cohesion. The absence of security not only affects individuals but also impacts the collective well-being of society as a whole.

Therefore, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for Muslims to strive for peace and security in all aspects of their lives. It encourages us to work towards creating a society where everyone can live without fear, where justice prevails, and where the blessings of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) can be fully appreciated and enjoyed.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of security as the greatest blessing. It reminds us of the importance of peace and stability in our lives and encourages us to strive for a society where everyone can live without fear or threat. By embracing security, we can fully appreciate and benefit from the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), and lead lives of purpose, fulfillment, and tranquility. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us all the blessing of security and guide us on the path of peace.
