Hadith #7649

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

أقْرَبُ النّاسِ مِنَ الأنْبِياءِ أعْمَلُهُمْ بِما أمَرُوا بِهِ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of acting upon the commandments and teachings of the Prophets, as those who do so are considered the closest to them.

Let us delve into the exegesis of this profound Hadith by examining its key words and their meanings. The word (aqrabu) "أقْرَبُ" means "closest" or "nearest," indicating a special proximity and connection. (annas) "النّاسِ" refers to "people" or "humankind." (mina) "مِنَ" means "from" or "among." (al-anbiya) "الأنْبِياءِ" signifies "the Prophets," who were chosen by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to guide humanity. (a'maluhum) "أعْمَلُهُمْ" translates to "their actions" or "their deeds." Finally, (bima amaruu bihi) "بِما أمَرُوا بِهِ" means

what they were commanded.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states in Surah Al-Imran (3:31),

Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'

This verse highlights the importance of following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in order to attain the love and forgiveness of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Additionally, in Surah Al-A'raf (7:157), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.

This verse emphasizes the importance of following the Prophet's teachings, as it leads to success in this life and the hereafter.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to Muslims that merely believing in the Prophets is not enough; rather, it is imperative to act upon their commandments and teachings. It purifies our souls, elevates our spiritual status, and increases our proximity to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It also brings about personal growth and development, as we strive to embody the noble qualities and values taught by the Prophets.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of acting upon the commandments and teachings of the Prophets. By doing so, we establish a close connection with them and manifest their wisdom in our lives.
