مَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللّهِ أضاءَتْ لَهُ الشُّبَهاتُ، وكُفِيَ المَؤُناتُ، وأمِنَ التَّبِعاتِ۔
Whoever trusts in Allah, doubts get cleared for him, his sustenance is catered for and he is saved from tribulations.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of placing our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and the numerous benefits that come with it. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.
The key word in this Hadith is (tawakkala) "تَوَكَّلَ", which means to trust or rely upon. When a person places their trust in Allah, they are acknowledging His absolute power and control over all affairs. This trust is not passive, but rather an active surrender to the will of Allah, seeking His guidance and relying on Him for all matters.
The Hadith states that when one trusts in Allah, (adā'at lahu ash-shubahāt) "أضاءَتْ لَهُ الشُّبَهاتُ", which can be translated as
doubts get cleared for him.
This means that when we trust in Allah, our hearts are filled with certainty and clarity. Doubts and uncertainties that may cloud our judgment are dispelled, and we are able to make decisions with confidence and conviction.
The next part of the Hadith states, (wakufiya al-ma'unāt) "وكُفِيَ المَؤُناتُ", which can be translated as
his sustenance is catered for.
This highlights the divine promise that when we trust in Allah, He will provide for us. Our sustenance, both material and spiritual, is taken care of by the Almighty. This does not mean that we sit idle and expect miracles to happen, but rather we strive and work hard, knowing that our ultimate success lies in the hands of Allah.
Furthermore, the Hadith states, (wa'aminat at-tabi'āt) "وأمِنَ التَّبِعاتِ", which can be translated as
he is saved from tribulations.
Placing our trust in Allah grants us protection from the trials and tribulations of life. We may still face challenges, but with trust in Allah, we are given the strength and resilience to overcome them. Our faith becomes a shield that safeguards us from the harmful effects of worldly trials.
To understand the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for further guidance. Allah says in Surah At-Talaq, verse 3 (Quran 65:3):
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.
This verse emphasizes the sufficiency of relying on Allah alone. When we place our trust in Him, He becomes our ultimate source of support and guidance.
In Surah Ash-Shura, verse 36 (Quran 42:36), Allah says:
Whatever you have been given is but a temporary enjoyment of this worldly life, but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely.
This verse reminds us that the true and everlasting blessings are with Allah. When we trust in Him, we detach ourselves from the temporary pleasures of this world and focus on attaining the eternal rewards of the Hereafter.
Reflecting on the Hadith, we can see the profound impact of placing our trust in Allah. When we trust in Him, our hearts are filled with clarity and certainty, our sustenance is provided for, and we are protected from the trials and tribulations of life. Trusting in Allah is not a passive act, but an active surrender to His will, seeking His guidance in every aspect of our lives.
As Muslims, we should strive to embody the teachings of this Hadith and strengthen our trust in Allah. By doing so, we can navigate through the challenges of life with confidence and find solace in the knowledge that Allah is always there for us. May Allah grant us the ability to trust in Him wholeheartedly and may He shower us with His blessings and mercy.
