Hadith #8741

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

طُوبى لِمَنْ خَلا مِنَ الغِلِّ صَدْرُهُ وسَلِمَ مِنَ الغِشِّ قَلْبُهُ۔

This can be translated as:

Blessed is the one whose chest is void of rancour and whose heart is safe from deception.

Let us delve into the meanings of some important words in this Hadith. The word (ghill) "غِلِّ" refers to rancor, animosity, or ill feelings towards others. It is a negative emotion that can poison the heart and lead to conflicts and disputes. The word (ghish) "غِشِّ" refers to deception, fraud, or deceit. To understand the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:10):

The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.

Furthermore, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns us against deception in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:42):

And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in this Hadith is teaching us the virtues of having a pure heart and a sincere character.
