Hadith #3450

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his family (Ahl al-Bayt), and his companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "رَأسُ الكُفْرِ الخِيانَةُ۔" This can be translated as,

The peak of ingratitude is disloyalty.

Let us delve into the meaning of this statement in light of the Quran.

The word (kufr) "كُفْرِ" in this Hadith refers to ingratitude or disbelief. It is a state of denying or rejecting the truth, whether it is the truth of Allah's existence, His guidance, or His blessings. Those who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and cause corruption on earth - it is those who are the losers.

This verse highlights the severity of breaking covenants and betraying the trust placed upon us. It is an act that leads to corruption and loss. Similarly, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:27), Allah warns against treachery and betrayal, saying,
