(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ غالَبَ الحَقَّ غُلِبَ۔

This can be translated as,

One who tries to prevail against the truth is overpowered [by it].

This beautiful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the ultimate triumph of truth over falsehood and the inevitable defeat of those who oppose it.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith by examining its key words. The word (ghalaba) "غالَبَ" means to prevail or overcome, while (al-haqq) "الحَقَّ" refers to the truth. The word (ghuliba) "غُلِبَ" means to be overpowered or defeated.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we must turn to the Quran, the ultimate source of guidance for all Muslims. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the supremacy of truth and the ultimate victory it holds.

In Surah Al-Isra (17:81), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

This verse affirms that truth will always prevail over falsehood, as falsehood is inherently transient and destined to be defeated.

Another verse that reinforces the message of the Hadith is found in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:18), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs.

Here, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes how the truth shatters falsehood, causing it to crumble and dissipate.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to all Muslims that no matter how vehemently falsehood may try to assert itself, it will ultimately be defeated by the truth. Those who attempt to challenge the truth will find themselves overwhelmed and powerless in the face of its undeniable strength.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his unparalleled knowledge and wisdom, understood the profound nature of this truth. He witnessed firsthand the triumph of truth over falsehood throughout his life, from the battles fought alongside the Prophet Muhammad () to his own struggles during his caliphate.

This Hadith also holds important lessons for us as Muslims. It reminds us of the importance of seeking and upholding the truth in all aspects of our lives. We should strive to align our thoughts, actions, and beliefs with the truth, for it is the only path that leads to success and righteousness.

Furthermore, this Hadith serves as a source of motivation and encouragement for Muslims facing adversity. It assures us that no matter how challenging the circumstances may be, the truth will ultimately prevail. It instills within us the strength to stand firm in our convictions and to resist the temptations of falsehood.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ)

مَنْ غالَبَ الحَقَّ غُلِبَ۔

teaches us that the truth is an unstoppable force that will always overcome falsehood. It reminds us of the Quranic verses that emphasize the triumph of truth and the inevitable defeat of falsehood. As Muslims, we should strive to align ourselves with the truth and draw inspiration from its unwavering strength. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to the path of truth and grant us the wisdom to recognize and uphold it.
