Hadith #9886

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his noble family, the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لاخُلَّةَ لِمَلُول۔" This can be translated into English as,

There is no friendship for the one who is fed-up.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, let us delve into the important words used in this statement.

The word (lakhulata) "لاخُلَّةَ" refers to friendship or companionship. It signifies a close bond between individuals, based on trust, loyalty, and mutual support. It goes beyond mere acquaintanceship and implies a deep connection between two people.

The word (limalul) "لِمَلُول" is translated as

the one who is fed-up.

It refers to a person who constantly complains, finds fault in others, and is never satisfied with what they have. Such an individual is always dissatisfied, negative, and drains the positive energy of those around them.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:12),

O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

This verse teaches us the importance of avoiding negative assumptions and backbiting. It emphasizes the need for a positive and supportive environment among Muslims. A person who is constantly fed-up and complains not only spreads negativity but also violates the principles of brotherhood and unity in Islam.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:2), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

This verse highlights the importance of cooperation in righteousness and piety. It encourages Muslims to support and uplift one another in acts of goodness. However, a person who is constantly fed-up and negative hinders the spirit of cooperation and unity within the Muslim community.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to be mindful of their attitudes and behaviors. It teaches us that true friendship and companionship cannot exist with a constant state of dissatisfaction and negativity.
