أنْعَمُ النّاسِ عَيْشاً مَنْ مَنَحَهُ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ القَناعَةَ، وأصْلَحَ لَهُ زَوْجَهُ۔
The person with the most blessed lifestyle is one who has been granted contentment by Allah, the Glorified, and who has been given a good wife.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Lifestyle)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
In this profound hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he highlights the key elements that lead to a blessed and contented lifestyle. The first important word in this hadith is (qana'ah) "قَنَاعَةَ", which translates to contentment. It refers to being satisfied with what Allah has bestowed upon us and not constantly desiring more. Contentment is a state of inner peace and tranquility, where one is grateful for the blessings they have, regardless of their quantity or quality.
The second significant word in this hadith is (zawjah) "زَوْجَهُ", which means wife. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of having a good wife as a key factor in leading a blessed lifestyle. A good wife is not only a life partner but also a source of support, love, and companionship. She plays a crucial role in creating a harmonious and contented home environment.
To further understand the significance of contentment and the role of a good wife, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),
And He will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.
This verse reminds us that true sustenance and provisions come from Allah, and He provides for us in ways we may not even anticipate. When we have contentment in our hearts, we trust in Allah's plan and rely on Him alone. We understand that our happiness and well-being do not solely depend on material possessions, but rather on our relationship with Allah and our level of contentment.
Another verse that supports the concept of contentment is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286),
Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear...
This verse reassures us that Allah knows our capabilities and burdens us only with what we can handle. When we have contentment, we accept the challenges and trials that come our way, knowing that Allah will never burden us beyond our capacity.
Now, let us reflect on the consequences and benefits of practicing contentment and having a good wife. When a person is content with what Allah has provided, they experience inner peace and satisfaction. They are not constantly chasing after worldly possessions or comparing themselves to others. Instead, they focus on gratitude and appreciate the blessings they have been given.
Having a good wife further enhances this blessed lifestyle. A good wife supports her husband emotionally, spiritually, and practically. She is a source of comfort and solace during difficult times and shares in the joys and successes of life. Her presence creates a loving and harmonious atmosphere at home, which contributes to the overall contentment of the family.
In conclusion, this hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of contentment and having a good wife in leading a blessed lifestyle. Contentment allows us to appreciate the blessings we have and trust in Allah's plan for us. A good wife, on the other hand, provides support, love, and companionship, creating a harmonious home environment. By practicing contentment and valuing the role of a good wife, Muslims can strive for a lifestyle that is truly blessed in the eyes of Allah. May Allah grant us all the ability to cultivate contentment and bless us with righteous spouses.
