Hadith #10076

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

خَيْرُ أمْوالِكَ ما كَفاكَ۔

This can be translated as,

The best of your wealth is that which suffices you.

This amazing Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of contentment and moderation in matters of wealth and material possessions.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words and concepts it presents. The word "أمْوالِكَ" refers to one's wealth or possessions. It encompasses all forms of material resources, including money, property, and possessions. The word "ما" denotes "that which" or "whatever." is enough for you.

It implies a state of contentment and satisfaction with what one possesses, without the need for excessive accumulation or greed.

This Hadith aligns with the teachings of the Quran, which repeatedly emphasizes the importance of moderation, contentment, and detachment from worldly possessions. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197),

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa (piety).

This verse highlights that the best provision for our journey in this world is not material wealth, but rather piety and righteousness.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas (28:77), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world.

This verse reminds us that while we should strive for the rewards of the Hereafter, we should not neglect our responsibilities and obligations in this world. It emphasizes the need for balance and moderation in our pursuit of wealth and worldly possessions.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to adopt a balanced approach towards wealth. It encourages us to seek sufficiency rather than excess, to be content with what we have, and to avoid the pitfalls of greed and materialism. By focusing on what is enough for us, we can free ourselves from the constant pursuit of wealth and possessions, and instead prioritize our spiritual growth and the well-being of others.
