Hadith #1800

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "مَنْ جادَ سادَ۔" This Hadith can be translated as,

One who is generous gains authority.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (jada) "جادَ" in this Hadith refers to generosity. It signifies the act of giving freely and abundantly, without expecting anything in return. Generosity is a noble trait that encompasses various forms, including giving wealth, time, knowledge, and kindness. It is an attribute that reflects the selflessness and benevolence of a person.

To understand the significance of generosity in Islam, we can turn to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:261),

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

This verse highlights the immense reward and blessings that come with giving generously in the cause of Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hadid (57:7), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Believe in Allah and His Messenger and spend out of that in which He has made you successors. For those who have believed among you and spent, there will be a great reward.

This verse emphasizes the correlation between belief in Allah and spending in His cause. It implies that generosity is not only a means of attaining worldly authority but also a means of spiritual elevation and reward in the Hereafter.

Now, let us reflect on the beautiful message conveyed by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in this Hadith. When Imam Ali states that

One who is generous gains authority,
