Hadith #7007

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

العقلُ زينٌ، الحُمْقُ شَيْنٌ۔

This Hadith can be translated as,

Intelligence is an adornment and foolishness is a disgrace.

Let us delve into the profound wisdom contained within this statement and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

Firstly, let us understand the key words in this Hadith. (al-'aql) "العقلُ" refers to intelligence, reason, and intellect. He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom is indeed given a great good.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:43), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.

And certainly, We have created many of the jinn and mankind for Hell. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. They are like cattle; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.
