لامَعُونَةَ كَالتَّوْفيقِ۔
There is no succour like God-given success.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: God-Given Success)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لامَعُونَةَ كَالتَّوْفيقِ۔" This can be translated into English as,
There is no succour like God-given success.
Let us delve into the meanings of the important words in this Hadith. The word (lama'unah) "لامَعُونَةَ" refers to assistance, support, or succour. It signifies the act of receiving help or aid in times of need. The term (kaltawfiq) "كَالتَّوْفيقِ" means "like success." It refers to the divine guidance and facilitation that leads to favorable outcomes and achievements.
To understand the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, we turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of seeking His assistance and relying on His divine guidance. In Surah Al-Anfal, verse 30, Allah says,
And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.
This verse highlights the concept of divine assistance and success. Despite the plots and schemes of the disbelievers, Allah's plan prevailed, and the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) achieved success. It is a reminder to all Muslims that no matter the challenges we face, our ultimate reliance should be on Allah's guidance and support.
Another verse that reinforces the message of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Mumtahanah, verse 4:
There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, 'Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone.'
This verse highlights the story of Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and his unwavering faith in Allah's guidance. Despite facing opposition and animosity from his people, Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) remained steadfast in his belief in Allah's support and success. This serves as a powerful example for Muslims, reminding us that true success lies in our unwavering faith and reliance on Allah.
Now, let us reflect on the enlightening message of Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith. The statement
There is no succour like God-given success
emphasizes the unparalleled nature of divine assistance. It highlights that the support and success granted by Allah are incomparable to any other form of help or aid.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, emphasizes the importance of recognizing that true success comes from Allah alone. It is a reminder to Muslims that no matter how much we strive and exert effort, our achievements are ultimately dependent on Allah's guidance and facilitation.
This Hadith encourages Muslims to seek Allah's help and to place their trust in Him. It reminds us that success is not solely determined by our own abilities or worldly resources, but rather by the divine intervention and support that Allah bestows upon His servants.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a powerful reminder for Muslims to rely on Allah's guidance and support. It emphasizes that true success lies in seeking divine assistance and recognizing that there is no succour like the success granted by Allah. May we always turn to Allah for help and may He grant us success in this life and the hereafter.
