Verily the God-wary have taken [and gained in both] the evanescent world and the Hereafter. They have shared with the people of this world in their worldly benefits, while the people of this world shall not share with them in their Hereafter.

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he highlights the distinction and reward of the God-wary individuals. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The key word in this Hadith is (al-muttaqeen) "المُتَّقينَ", which refers to those who are conscious of Allah's commands and strive to avoid His prohibitions. The term "المُتَّقينَ" encompasses individuals who possess a deep sense of piety, righteousness, and fear of Allah. They are the ones who constantly seek to please Allah in all aspects of their lives.

To understand the enlightening message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 2:197)

And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa. So fear Me, O you of understanding.

Here, Allah emphasizes that the best provision for our journey in this world and the Hereafter is Taqwa, which is the essence of being God-wary.

The Hadith further states that the God-wary individuals have

taken [and gained in both] the evanescent world and the Hereafter.

This implies that their piety and righteousness have not only secured them success in the Hereafter but have also brought them blessings and benefits in this worldly life. Their adherence to the principles of Islam has enabled them to excel in various aspects of life, including their relationships, careers, and personal growth.

Allah affirms this in the Quran when He says, (Quran 16:97)

Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.

This verse highlights that those who strive to do good and remain conscious of Allah will be granted a good life in this world and a great reward in the Hereafter.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) further states that the God-wary individuals

have shared with the people of this world in their worldly benefits, while the people of this world shall not share with them in their Hereafter.

This signifies that the God-wary individuals not only enjoy the blessings of this world but also actively contribute to the betterment of society. They engage in acts of charity, kindness, and justice, thereby benefiting the people around them.

In Surah Al-Insan, Allah describes the righteous individuals by saying, (Quran 76:8-9)

And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], 'We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.'

This verse exemplifies the selflessness and generosity of the God-wary individuals who share their worldly benefits with those in need, solely seeking the pleasure of Allah.

On the other hand, the people of this world, who are solely focused on material gains and worldly pleasures, will not share in the rewards of the Hereafter. Their priorities and actions are centered around their own desires and immediate gratification, neglecting the eternal life to come.

Allah warns us about the consequences of such a mindset in the Quran, (Quran 87:16-17)

But you prefer the worldly life, while the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

This verse reminds us that the Hereafter is far superior and everlasting compared to the fleeting pleasures of this world.

In conclusion, this Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a profound reminder for Muslims to prioritize their relationship with Allah and strive for piety and righteousness. By doing so, they not only secure success in the Hereafter but also enjoy the blessings of this world and contribute positively to society. May we all strive to be among the God-wary individuals and seek the pleasure of Allah in both this world and the Hereafter.
