Hadith #4711

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "Al-sakhā'u ashrafu 'ādat." This can be translated as,

Generosity is the most honourable habit.

In this thought-provoking saying, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the virtue and nobility of generosity.

The word "sakhā'" refers to generosity, which encompasses the act of giving and sharing with others. It is an attribute that reflects kindness, selflessness, and a willingness to help those in need. The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

This verse highlights the immense reward and blessings that come with giving in the cause of Allah. It demonstrates that generosity is not only beneficial for the recipient but also brings abundant blessings and multiplication of rewards for the giver.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra (17:80), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking sustenance from Allah and relying on Him for our needs. Generosity is a means of seeking the sustenance and blessings from Allah, as He is the ultimate Provider.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement on the nobility of generosity serves as a reminder for Muslims to cultivate this virtuous habit in their lives. Generosity is not limited to material possessions but also encompasses giving of one's time, knowledge, and support to others. His generosity was not limited to material possessions but extended to sharing his knowledge and guidance with others. This is evident in his famous saying,

Knowledge is the lost property of the believer, so wherever he finds it, he has more right to it.
