Hadith #1716

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لَيْسَ لِمَنْ طَلَبَهُ اللّهُ مُجيرٌ۔

which translates to

There is no protector for one who is sought by Allah [for punishment].

This beautiful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the concept of divine justice and accountability in the sight of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the depth of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of some key words. The word (talabahu) "طَلَبَهُ" refers to someone who is sought or pursued. In this context, it signifies a person who is being pursued by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for punishment due to their sins or transgressions. The word (mujir) "مُجِيرٌ" means a protector or someone who can provide refuge. Therefore, the Hadith conveys the message that no one can protect or save a person who is being sought by Allah for punishment.

This Hadith aligns with the teachings of the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the concept of accountability and the consequences of one's actions. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 4:123)

And whoever earns evil will be recompensed for it. And he will not find besides Allah any protector or helper.

This verse reinforces the idea that no one can escape the consequences of their actions, and there is no refuge or protector besides Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal, Allah states, (Quran 9:52)

Say, 'Do you await for us except one of the two best things while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting.'

This verse highlights the fact that Allah has the power to inflict punishment upon individuals directly or through the hands of His chosen representatives. It emphasizes the inevitability of divine justice and the futility of seeking protection from anyone other than Allah.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder to Muslims that they should strive to avoid actions that would make them liable to be pursued by Allah for punishment. It encourages individuals to be mindful of their deeds and to seek forgiveness and repentance from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) before it is too late.
