بِالحَقِّ يَسْتَظْهِرُ المُحْتَجُّ۔
Through truth, the petitioner gets support.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "بِالحَقِّ يَسْتَظْهِرُ المُحْتَجُّ۔" This can be translated as,
Through truth, the petitioner gets support.
Let us delve into the words of this profound Hadith and explore its meaning in light of the Quran. The word (haqq) "حَقِّ" refers to truth, righteousness, and justice. It encompasses the essence of what is right and just in the sight of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It is the opposite of falsehood and deceit. The word (yastazhiru) "يَسْتَظْهِرُ" means to seek support, assistance, or refuge. It implies that the one who seeks truth will find solace and help in their endeavors.
The Quran provides us with numerous verses that emphasize the importance of truth and its power to support and uplift the righteous. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Isra (17:81),
And say: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed, falsehood is ever bound to depart.'
This verse highlights the eternal nature of truth and its ability to overcome falsehood. When we align ourselves with the truth, we are on the side of Allah's divine support.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:19), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
If you seek the victory, then the victory has come to you. And if you desist, it is better for you.
This verse reminds us that victory and support are granted to those who uphold the truth and persevere in their pursuit of justice. When we stand firm in the face of adversity, guided by the truth, Allah's support is assured.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith encourages us to seek truth in all aspects of our lives. By doing so, we not only align ourselves with the divine will but also find strength and support in our endeavors. When we prioritize truth and righteousness, we become recipients of Allah's blessings and guidance.
This Hadith also serves as a reminder of the profound knowledge and wisdom possessed by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). His deep understanding of the Quranic teachings allowed him to articulate such profound statements that continue to resonate with Muslims to this day. As Muslims, we should strive to emulate Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) commitment to truth and justice, seeking support and guidance through our adherence to these principles.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the power of truth and its ability to provide support and assistance to those who seek it. By aligning ourselves with the truth, we not only gain the favor of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) but also find strength and solace in our endeavors. Let us strive to uphold truth and righteousness in all aspects of our lives, following the example set by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and seeking Allah's divine support. May Allah guide us all on the path of truth and grant us success in this life and the hereafter.
