(Ghurar al-Hikam: The One Who Surrenders)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Man sallama amrahu ila Allahi istazhara.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of surrendering one's affairs to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and seeking His support and guidance. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word "sallama" in this Hadith means to surrender or submit. It implies complete trust and reliance on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all matters of our lives. It is an act of acknowledging that Allah is the ultimate controller of our affairs and that we are entirely dependent on Him. This surrender is not a passive act but an active one, where we actively seek Allah's guidance and support in every decision we make.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) encourages us to surrender our affairs to Him in the Quran as well. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 2:186)

And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided

This verse highlights the importance of turning to Allah and seeking His guidance in all matters.

Furthermore, in Surah Ash-Shura, Allah says, (Quran 42:51)

And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition or that He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise

This verse reminds us that Allah is the ultimate source of guidance and that we should seek His guidance through the means He has ordained, such as the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ().

When we submit our affairs to Allah, we are acknowledging His infinite knowledge and wisdom. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) possessed immense knowledge and wisdom, which he acquired through his close association with the Prophet Muhammad () and his deep understanding of the Quran. By surrendering our affairs to Allah, we are aligning ourselves with the teachings of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and seeking his guidance in our lives.

Surrendering our affairs to Allah has profound consequences in our lives. It brings us peace of mind and relieves us from the burden of worrying about the outcomes of our decisions. When we trust in Allah's wisdom and rely on His support, we are freed from the anxiety and stress that often accompany decision-making. We are also protected from making hasty or ill-informed choices, as we seek Allah's guidance before taking any action.

Moreover, surrendering our affairs to Allah strengthens our relationship with Him. It deepens our faith and reliance on Him, and it allows us to experience His mercy and blessings in our lives. When we submit to Allah's will, we open ourselves up to His divine intervention and assistance. We become recipients of His support, guidance, and protection, both in this world and in the hereafter.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of surrendering our affairs to Allah. By submitting to His will and seeking His guidance, we align ourselves with the teachings of the Quran and the example of the Prophet Muhammad (). This surrender brings us peace, strengthens our relationship with Allah, and allows us to experience His support and guidance in all aspects of our lives. May Allah grant us the ability to submit our affairs to Him and seek His support and guidance in all that we do.
