In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his noble family, and his righteous companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warns us about the dangers of arrogance. Arrogance, or "al-kibr" in Arabic, is described as the greatest of sins and the vilest of faults. It is the ornament of the Devil, meaning that it is a characteristic that Satan himself adorns himself with. This Hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims of the importance of humility and the consequences of arrogance.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words used. "Kibr" refers to an inflated sense of self-importance and superiority over others. And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.

This verse reminds us that no matter how great our achievements may be, we should never let them lead us to arrogance. We are mere creations of Allah, and our accomplishments are only possible through His blessings.

Another verse that highlights the consequences of arrogance is found in Surah Al-Qasas (28:76), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, 'Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant.'

This verse narrates the story of Qarun, who was blessed with immense wealth but allowed his arrogance to consume him. As a result, he faced severe consequences and was ultimately swallowed by the earth.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a powerful reminder for Muslims to guard themselves against the sin of arrogance. It highlights the gravity of this sin, as it is considered the greatest of sins and the vilest of faults.
