Hadith #11035

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

فِي المَواعِظِ جَلاءُ الصُّدُورِ۔

This can be translated as,

In admonitions there is polishing of the hearts.

This profound statement by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the transformative power of admonitions and the positive impact they have on purifying and refining our hearts.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words used. The word (mawāʿiẓ) "مَواعِظِ" refers to admonitions or sermons that are given to advise, counsel, and guide individuals towards righteousness. These admonitions serve as reminders of our duties and responsibilities as Muslims, and they aim to rectify our behavior and purify our hearts.

The word (jalāʾ) "جَلاءُ" means polishing or shining. It signifies the process of removing impurities and blemishes, resulting in a clear and radiant surface. This concept of purifying the hearts through admonitions is beautifully emphasized in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:3),

Indeed, those who lower their voices before the Messenger of Allah - they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for righteousness. For them is forgiveness and great reward.

This verse highlights the importance of humility and attentiveness when receiving admonitions from the Prophet (ﷺ) and his successors. It is through this process that the hearts are tested and purified, leading to forgiveness and immense rewards.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:2), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

The believers are only those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.

This verse emphasizes the impact of the Quranic admonitions on the hearts of the believers. The recitation of the Quran and reflection upon its verses strengthen their faith, instill awe and reverence for Allah, and deepen their reliance on Him.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith reminds us of the transformative power of admonitions. When we sincerely listen to and reflect upon the words of guidance and wisdom, our hearts are polished and purified. Admonitions serve as a means to rectify our actions, purify our intentions, and strengthen our connection with Allah.
