Hadith #1808

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic word "sada" in the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) translates to "masters" or "leaders." The word "ahli" means "people" or "individuals," and "dunya" refers to "this world." The phrase "wal akhirah" means "and the Hereafter." The word "ajwad" translates to "generous" or "benevolent."

This profound Hadith emphasizes the importance of generosity and kindness in both this world and the Hereafter. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is teaching us that those who possess the qualities of generosity and benevolence are the true leaders and masters of society, not those who hold positions of power or wealth.

The concept of generosity is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of giving and helping others. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (2:195)

And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good

This verse highlights the significance of using our wealth and resources to benefit others and to seek the pleasure of Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Insan, Allah describes the qualities of the righteous, saying, (76:8-9)

And they give food, in spite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, (Saying): 'We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you'

This verse exemplifies the selflessness and generosity of those who give without expecting anything in return, solely seeking the pleasure of Allah.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is reminding us that true leadership and mastery lie in acts of generosity and benevolence. The one who selflessly gives to others, without expecting anything in return, is the one who holds true power and influence. This Hadith encourages us to prioritize acts of kindness and charity, as they have a profound impact not only in this world but also in the Hereafter.

When we embody the qualities of generosity, we become leaders who inspire and uplift others. Our actions have the power to transform society and bring about positive change. By giving to those in need, we alleviate their suffering and bring joy to their lives. Moreover, our acts of generosity serve as a means of purifying our own souls and seeking the pleasure of Allah.

Whether it is through financial contributions, acts of service, or simply offering a kind word, our generosity can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
