Hadith #11237

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of placing our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and relying on Him in all aspects of our lives. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that when a person truly trusts in Allah, they will find that difficulties become tolerable, means become easy, and they will be granted comfort and honor.

Let us delve deeper into the words of this Hadith to gain a better understanding. The word (tawakkala) "تَوَكَّلَ" is derived from the root word (wakala) "وَكَلَ", which means to rely, trust, or depend on someone. When a person places their trust in Allah, they acknowledge His power, wisdom, and ability to handle all affairs. This trust is not a passive act, but rather an active choice to surrender our worries and concerns to Allah, knowing that He is the ultimate source of guidance and support.

The Hadith mentions that when one trusts in Allah, (dallat lahu assi'ab) "ذَلَّتْ لَهُ الصِّعابُ", which can be translated as

difficulties become tolerable for him.

This means that when we rely on Allah, our hardships and challenges become easier to bear. This does not imply that the difficulties themselves vanish, but rather that our trust in Allah grants us the strength, patience, and resilience to face them with a calm and composed heart.

The Hadith further states, (tasahhalat lahu al-asbab) "وتَسَهَّلَتْ لَهُ الأسْبابُ", which can be understood as

means become easy for him.

This means that when we trust in Allah, He facilitates the means and resources necessary to overcome our challenges. We may find unexpected solutions, opportunities, or assistance that we could not have anticipated. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, opens doors for us and makes the path smoother when we place our trust in Him.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) also mentions that when one trusts in Allah, they will (tabawwa'a al-khafda wal-karama) "تَبَوَّءَ الخَفْضَ والكَرامَةَ", which can be translated as

enter into [a place of] comfort and honor.

This signifies that when we rely on Allah, He bestows upon us a sense of tranquility, contentment, and dignity. Our hearts and minds find peace, and we are elevated in the eyes of Allah and others. This honor and comfort may manifest in various ways, such as through spiritual fulfillment, success in our endeavors, or the blessings of this world and the Hereafter.

To further understand the significance of trusting in Allah, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse emphasizes that when we place our trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate source of support and suffices for all our needs. We can also find solace in Surah Ash-Shura (42:36), where Allah assures us,

So rely upon Allah; indeed, you are upon the clear truth.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we can see the profound impact that trust in Allah has on our lives as Muslims. When we truly rely on Allah, we are able to face difficulties with resilience and find ease in the means provided by Him. Moreover, this trust grants us a sense of comfort and honor, as we recognize that our ultimate reliance is on Allah alone. It is through this trust that we can navigate the challenges of life, knowing that Allah is always with us, guiding and supporting us.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and wisdom to place our complete trust in Him, and may He make our difficulties tolerable, our means easy, and grant us comfort and honor in this life and the Hereafter.
