Verily in every blessing there is a right of gratitude to Allah, the Most High, so whoever fulfils it, He increases it for him and whoever does not do so risks losing his blessing.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Gratitude And The Grateful)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
In this profound hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he highlights the importance of expressing gratitude to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for every blessing bestowed upon us. The Arabic word used in the hadith for gratitude is "shukr", which refers to acknowledging and appreciating the blessings of Allah.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that every blessing carries with it a right of gratitude towards Allah. This means that when we receive a blessing, it is our duty as Muslims to express our gratitude to Allah for it. By fulfilling this right, Allah increases the blessings bestowed upon us. On the other hand, if we neglect to show gratitude, we risk losing the blessing itself.
This concept of expressing gratitude to Allah is deeply rooted in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Ibrahim (14:7):
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'
This ayah emphasizes the importance of gratitude and the promise of Allah to increase His blessings upon those who are grateful. By expressing gratitude, we not only acknowledge the source of our blessings but also invite more blessings into our lives.
Furthermore, in Surah An-Naml (27:40), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:
Say, 'Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent.'
This ayah reminds us to reflect upon the creation of Allah and His countless blessings. By observing the world around us, we can witness the beauty and intricacy of His creation, which should inspire us to express gratitude.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) hadith serves as a reminder for us to be mindful of the blessings we receive and to express gratitude to Allah for them. Gratitude is not only a verbal expression but also a state of the heart and actions. It involves recognizing the blessings, acknowledging their source, and utilizing them in a manner that pleases Allah.
When we express gratitude for the blessings we have, we develop a positive mindset and a sense of contentment. Gratitude helps us focus on the good in our lives and prevents us from taking things for granted. It also strengthens our relationship with Allah, as we acknowledge His continuous favors upon us.
Conversely, neglecting to show gratitude can lead to ingratitude and a sense of entitlement. This attitude can blind us to the blessings we have and make us unappreciative of the favors of Allah. It is important to remember that the blessings we enjoy are not guaranteed and can be taken away if we fail to express gratitude.
In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) hadith reminds us of the importance of expressing gratitude to Allah for every blessing we receive. By fulfilling the right of gratitude, we invite more blessings into our lives and strengthen our relationship with Allah. Let us strive to be grateful Muslims, recognizing and appreciating the countless blessings bestowed upon us by our Lord. May Allah grant us the ability to express gratitude in all aspects of our lives.
