مَنْ وَثِقَ بِاللّهِ صانَ يَقينَهُ۔
Whoever relies upon Allah has preserved his certitude.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Reliance On Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
Whoever relies upon Allah has preserved his certitude.
This beautiful saying emphasizes the importance of placing our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and relying on Him completely. Let us delve into the deeper meanings of the words used in this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.
The word (wathiq) "وَثِقَ" in Arabic means to rely, depend, or trust. It signifies a firm and unwavering trust in Allah. This trust is not merely superficial, but rather a deep-rooted conviction that Allah is the ultimate source of all power, guidance, and sustenance. It is a reliance that goes beyond human capabilities and recognizes that true success lies in surrendering to the will of Allah.
The word (sana) "صانَ" means to preserve or safeguard. In this context, it refers to the preservation of one's certitude or faith. By relying upon Allah, a person protects and strengthens their belief in Him. This reliance acts as a shield against doubts, uncertainties, and the temptations of this world. It fortifies the foundation of faith and ensures its continuity and growth.
To understand the significance of relying upon Allah, we turn to the Quran, where numerous verses emphasize the importance of trust in Him. Allah says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.
This verse highlights that when we place our trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate support and provider. He is sufficient to fulfill our needs and protect us from harm.
In Surah Al-Anfal (8:2), Allah says,
Indeed, Allah is with the believers.
This verse reassures us that when we rely upon Allah, He is with us, guiding and supporting us through every step of our journey. This divine presence brings comfort, strength, and certainty to our hearts.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Imran (3:160), Allah states,
If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him?
This verse highlights the absolute power and authority of Allah. When we rely upon Him, we acknowledge that He alone has control over our affairs. We recognize that without His support, no one can help us, and with His help, no one can harm us.
The consequences of relying upon Allah are profound. When we place our trust in Him, we experience a sense of peace and tranquility, knowing that He is in control. Our certitude in His existence, His attributes, and His promises becomes unshakable. We become less attached to the material world and more focused on the eternal rewards of the Hereafter. Our actions are driven by faith, and we are motivated to seek His pleasure in all aspects of our lives.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for Muslims to cultivate a deep and unwavering reliance on Allah. It encourages us to strengthen our faith by constantly turning to Him, seeking His guidance, and placing our trust in His wisdom. By doing so, we preserve our certitude and ensure that our faith remains steadfast in the face of challenges and uncertainties.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the significance of relying upon Allah and the preservation of our certitude. It urges us to trust in Allah wholeheartedly, recognizing His power, mercy, and guidance. Through this reliance, we find solace, strength, and unwavering faith. May Allah grant us the ability to rely upon Him completely and preserve our certitude.
