Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Verily the best of knowledge is [that which leads to] tranquillity and forbearance.

This beautiful Hadith highlights the importance of acquiring knowledge that brings about inner peace and patience in the face of challenges.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word "sakeenah" refers to tranquillity, serenity, and peace. It is a state of inner calmness that enables a person to navigate through life's trials with composure. "Hilm" refers to forbearance, patience, and the ability to control one's anger and emotions.

To comprehend the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153),

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

This verse emphasizes the importance of patience in seeking assistance from Allah. It is through patience that we can maintain tranquillity in the face of adversity.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Furqan (25:63), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the qualities of the servants of the Most Merciful, stating,

And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace.

This verse highlights the virtue of forbearance and responding to ignorance with peaceful words.

Now, let us reflect on the enlightening message of Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith. The best form of knowledge is one that not only expands our intellectual horizons but also nurtures our inner selves. It is knowledge that enables us to cultivate a state of tranquillity, peace, and composure in our hearts. This knowledge empowers us to face the trials and tribulations of life with patience and forbearance.

For example, when faced with a challenging situation, a person with true knowledge would respond with calmness and wisdom, rather than reacting impulsively. They would seek to understand the root causes of the problem, analyze the situation objectively, and find a peaceful resolution. This knowledge helps in maintaining harmonious relationships and fostering a peaceful society.

Moreover, this Hadith reminds us of the importance of seeking knowledge that aligns with the teachings of Islam. Knowledge that promotes peace, justice, and compassion is the true essence of Islamic education. It is through this knowledge that we can contribute positively to our communities and strive for a more peaceful world.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that the best form of knowledge is one that leads to tranquillity and forbearance. It is a reminder to seek knowledge that not only expands our intellectual capacities but also nurtures our inner selves. By embodying these qualities, we can navigate through life's challenges with composure, respond to ignorance with peace, and contribute to a more harmonious society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom to seek such knowledge and the ability to embody its teachings.
