Hadith #7775

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لاخَيْرَ في عَمَل بِلا عِلْم۔

This beautiful Hadith translates to

There is no good in action without knowledge.

Let us delve into the depths of this Hadith and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word (amal) "عَمَل" in this Hadith refers to any action or deed performed by an individual. It encompasses all aspects of our lives, including our worship, interactions, and contributions to society. The word (bila) "بِلا" means "without" or "lacking," indicating that an action performed without knowledge is devoid of goodness.

To understand the importance of knowledge in our actions, we turn to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the significance of knowledge in numerous verses. In Surah Al-Zumar (39:9), Allah says,

Are those who know equal to those who do not know?

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:6), Allah instructs us to verify information before acting upon it, saying,

O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.

This can create divisions within the Muslim community and hinder the progress of society as a whole.

On the other hand, when we seek knowledge and strive to understand the teachings of Islam, our actions become enlightened and guided by wisdom. Knowledge empowers us to make informed decisions, act with compassion, and contribute positively to our communities. It enables us to uphold justice, promote unity, and spread the true message of Islam.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) himself was renowned for his vast knowledge and wisdom. His profound understanding of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) allowed him to guide the Muslim community during his caliphate. His actions were rooted in knowledge, and he served as a role model for Muslims in seeking knowledge and applying it in their lives.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ),

There is no good in action without knowledge,
