Hadith #2794

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

أسْرَعُ شَيْء عُقُوبَةً اَليَمِينُ الفاجِرَةُ۔

This Hadith can be translated as,

The thing that brings the quickest punishment is a false oath.

Let us delve into the meaning of the key words in this Hadith. The word (yameen) "يَمِينُ" refers to an oath or a pledge. It is a solemn declaration made by an individual, invoking Allah as a witness to the truthfulness of their statement. Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:224), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And do not make Allah an obstacle to your oaths against being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

This verse highlights the importance of maintaining righteousness and fearing Allah when making oaths. It reminds us that our oaths should not be used as a means to deceive or harm others, but rather to promote peace and justice.
