Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "أسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ۔" This can be translated as,

Become a Muslim and you shall be safe [in the Hereafter].

Let us delve into the connotation of this statement in light of the Quran.

The word (aslím) "أسْلِمْ" is derived from the root word (islam) "إِسْلَام", which means submission or surrender. It refers to the act of willingly submitting oneself to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and accepting Islam as one's faith. This submission encompasses both the outward actions and the inward beliefs of a person.

The word (taslam) "تَسْلَمْ" is derived from the root word (salam) "سَلَمَ", which means safety, peace, or security. It signifies the ultimate reward and benefit that one attains by embracing Islam. It implies protection from the punishment of Hellfire and the attainment of eternal salvation in the Hereafter.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208),

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse emphasizes the importance of entering into peace completely, which can only be achieved through embracing Islam wholeheartedly.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Imran (3:19), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.

This verse highlights that Islam is the only religion accepted by Allah, and it is through embracing Islam that one can attain true salvation and success in both this world and the Hereafter.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement emphasizes the importance of accepting Islam as a complete way of life. By becoming a Muslim, one not only gains spiritual peace and security but also aligns their actions and beliefs with the divine guidance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

When a person embraces Islam, they submit themselves to the commandments of Allah and strive to live their lives in accordance with His teachings. This submission brings about a transformation in their character, behavior, and outlook on life. It motivates them to seek knowledge, perform good deeds, and avoid sinful actions.

By embracing Islam, one gains a sense of purpose and direction in life. They recognize that their ultimate goal is to please Allah and seek His pleasure. This realization leads to a life of righteousness, humility, and compassion towards others. It encourages individuals to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives, whether it be in their relationships, work, or personal growth.

Moreover, becoming a Muslim not only guarantees safety in the Hereafter but also has profound consequences in this world. It fosters unity and brotherhood among Muslims, as they are bound together by their shared faith and belief in the Oneness of Allah. It promotes justice, equality, and social welfare, as Islam emphasizes the importance of caring for the less fortunate and upholding the rights of all individuals.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) "أسْلِمْ تَسْلَمْ۔" urges us to embrace Islam wholeheartedly and surrender ourselves to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By doing so, we attain spiritual peace and security in the Hereafter, as well as experience positive transformations in our lives and contribute to the betterment of society. May Allah guide us all to the path of Islam and grant us the strength to live as true Muslims.
