Hadith #9002

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

لاسَبيلَ أشْرَفُ مِنَ الاِسْتِقامَةِ۔

This can be translated as:

There is no path that is nobler than steadfastness.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this wise utterance of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word (istiqamah) "اِسْتِقامَةِ" in this Hadith refers to steadfastness, upright conduct, and maintaining a straight path. And, [O Muhammad], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it. And do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.

This verse highlights the significance of following the straight path and warns against deviating from it.

Another verse that supports the concept of istiqamah is found in Surah Hud (11:112):

So stand firm [in faith] as you are commanded and those who turn in repentance with you, and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.

This verse encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith, obeying the commandments of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and avoiding any form of transgression.
