اَلمُتَأَنّي حَرِيٌّ بِالإصابَةِ۔
One who acts unhurriedly is deserving of success.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: One Who Acts With Deliberateness)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "المُتَأَنّي حَرِيٌّ بِالإصابَةِ" which translates to
One who acts unhurriedly is deserving of success.
This impactful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of patience, deliberation, and careful consideration in our actions and decision-making processes.
The word (muta'anni) "المُتَأَنّي" comes from the root word (ana) "أَنَا" which means
to be slow, deliberate, or unhurried.
It implies taking one's time, being cautious, and not rushing into things without proper thought and reflection. This quality of being deliberate and patient is highly valued in Islam and is seen as a key attribute for success in various aspects of life.
The word (haryun) "حَرِيٌّ" is derived from the root word (hara) "حَرَىٰ" which means
to deserve, to be worthy of.
It signifies that one who acts unhurriedly and thoughtfully is deserving of success. This Hadith highlights the correlation between patience, carefulness, and the positive outcomes that result from such actions.
The importance of patience and deliberation in our actions is emphasized in the Quran as well. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran (3:200),
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.
This verse encourages believers to be patient, steadfast, and to fear Allah in order to attain success.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Furqan (25:63), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes the qualities of the servants of the Most Merciful, saying,
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace.
This verse highlights the importance of responding calmly and thoughtfully, even in the face of adversity or provocation.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith encourages us to adopt a measured and deliberate approach in our actions and decision-making processes. It reminds us to avoid impulsive and hasty behavior, as such actions often lead to negative consequences. By taking our time, considering the potential outcomes, and seeking guidance from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), we increase the likelihood of making wise and successful choices.
For example, in our personal lives, acting unhurriedly allows us to carefully evaluate our options, weigh the pros and cons, and make informed decisions. This applies to various aspects such as choosing a career path, selecting a life partner, or making financial investments. By exercising patience and thoughtfulness, we can avoid impulsive decisions that may lead to regret or unfavorable outcomes.
In the realm of social interactions, the Hadith reminds us to respond calmly and thoughtfully, even in challenging situations. By taking a moment to reflect and respond with kindness and wisdom, we can diffuse conflicts, build bridges of understanding, and foster harmonious relationships. This approach aligns with the teachings of the Quran, which emphasize the importance of patience, forgiveness, and peaceful dialogue.
Moreover, in matters of religious practice, the Hadith encourages us to approach our worship with sincerity, focus, and attentiveness. Rushing through our prayers or performing acts of worship without proper reflection diminishes the spiritual essence of these acts. By taking our time, reciting the Quran with contemplation, and engaging in acts of worship with mindfulness, we can deepen our connection with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and experience the true essence of faith.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of acting unhurriedly and thoughtfully in order to attain success. It reminds us to exercise patience, deliberation, and careful consideration in our actions and decision-making processes. By aligning our actions with the teachings of the Quran, we can navigate through life's challenges with wisdom, achieve positive outcomes, and ultimately earn the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to embody the qualities of patience and deliberation in all aspects of our lives.
