Hadith #8513

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

بِالنَّظَرِ فِي العَواقِبِ تُؤْمَنُ المَعاطِبُ۔

This can be translated as,

By considering the consequences, one is saved from harm.

This thought-provoking Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of foresight and reflection before taking any action or making any decision.

Let us delve deeper into the words of this Hadith to gain a better understanding. The word (nazari) "نَظَرِ" means to look, observe, or contemplate. It implies a thoughtful examination of the potential outcomes and consequences of our actions. The term (al-'awaqib) "العَواقِبِ" refers to the consequences or results that follow from our choices and decisions. And finally, (tu'manu) "تُؤْمَنُ" means to be saved or protected from harm.

This Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) aligns perfectly with the teachings of the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of reflection, wisdom, and considering the consequences of our actions. In Surah Al-Hashr, verse 18, Allah says,

O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

It reminds us that Allah is fully aware of our deeds and that we will be held accountable for them. And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa. So fear Me, O you of understanding.

However, it also emphasizes that the best provision one can have is Taqwa, which can be understood as God-consciousness or mindfulness of Allah's commands. By being mindful of Allah and considering the consequences of our actions, we can safeguard ourselves from harm and make choices that are pleasing to Him.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a powerful reminder for all Muslims. It urges us to think before we act, to reflect on the potential outcomes of our decisions, and to consider the long-term consequences of our actions. By doing so, we can avoid harm, make choices that align with our faith, and ultimately seek the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
