Hadith #8611

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

May Allah have mercy on the one who knows his status and does not overstep his limits.

(Allah) "اللّهُ" refers to the Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. (amra'an) "امْرَءً" means "a person" or "an individual." (arafa) "عَرَفَ" signifies "to know" or "to recognize." (qadrahu) "قَدْرَهُ" refers to "his status" or "his worth." (wa lam yata'adda) "وَ لَمْ يَتَعَدَّ" means

or "does not exceed." Finally, (taurahu) "طَوْرَهُ" denotes "his limits" or "his boundaries."

To comprehend the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13),

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

This verse highlights the importance of recognizing and acknowledging the diversity among individuals and communities. It emphasizes that true nobility lies in righteousness and piety, not in arrogance or superiority.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra (17:37), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.
