Hadith #10722

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

خَوْضُ النّاسِ فِي الشَّيْءِ مُقَدَّمَةُ الْكائِنِ۔

This can be translated as:

The entry of people into [discussion about] a thing is the prelude to its [coming into] existence.

Let us now delve into the deeper meaning of this profound statement in light of the Quranic teachings.

The word (khawdhu) "خَوْضُ" in this Hadith refers to the act of engaging or entering into a discussion or debate. It signifies the active involvement of people in a particular matter. The word (annas) "النّاسِ" means people, encompassing all individuals. (fi) "فِي" denotes being in or within something. (ash-shay'i) "الشَّيْءِ" refers to a thing or matter. To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:6):

O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:269), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:
