Hadith #6619

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

عَليْكَ بِالعَدْلِ في الصَّديقِ، والعَدُوِّ،وَ القَصْدِ فِي الفَقْرِ وَالغِنى۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of justice and moderation in our interactions with both friends and foes, as well as in dealing with poverty and wealth.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith by examining the key words and concepts it presents. The word (justice) "عَدْلِ" refers to fairness, equity, and righteousness in all aspects of life. It encompasses treating others with equality, upholding their rights, and refraining from any form of oppression or injustice. To further understand the significance of justice and moderation, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:8):

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

This verse emphasizes the importance of justice, even if it goes against our personal interests or the interests of our loved ones. It reminds us that Allah's command for justice overrides any personal biases or preferences.

In Surah Al-Isra (17:80), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking moderation and balance in our lives. It is a supplication made by Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) to Allah, asking for stability and sustenance. It teaches us to seek moderation in all aspects of our lives, including our material possessions and worldly affairs.
